Description
The College of Engineering & Science offers a combined Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering (BME) - Master of Mechanical Engineering (MME) program.
In order to complete both the BME and MME degrees in five years, the student must (a) be well prepared as an incoming freshman ready to take college-level engineering foundation courses; (b) satisfy all the admission criteria (see below); and (c) maintain a 3.25 GPA in order to take graduate level courses while still an undergraduate student.

Admission Into the Program
Qualifications for the 5-year Engineering program for incoming freshmen:
- A minimum ACT composite score of 26, with a minimum of 22 in each section, and a minimum of 23 in the Mathematics section. Or minimum SAT scores: 560 Mathematics, 560 ERW, and 1230 combined.
- With ACT/SAT scores above: a high school grade point average of 3.4 overall on a 4.0 point scale, and the same for the combined mathematics, physics, chemistry and biology courses.
- Without ACT/SAT scores: a high school grade point average of 3.6 overall on a 4.0 point scale, and the same for the combined mathematics, physics, chemistry and biology courses.
- Students must place into appropriate-level freshmen courses at 91传媒 in order to be able to complete both the bachelor and master degrees in five years.
Qualifications for the 5-year Engineering program for current 91传媒 students:
- Students with a GPA of 3.25 may apply any time after they have completed at least 30 credits in the program.
- Students should be on track to complete their undergraduate degree in four years. (Students who may take longer should consult with their financial aid counselor and be aware the time to complete both degrees may extend more than five years.)
Additional Information:
If accepted into the program, students may take up to nine graduate credits in their third/fourth years that will count towards both undergraduate and graduate requirements.
While registered as an undergraduate, students should register for the 5000-level section of Computer Aided Engineering (MENG 5920). Students should also consider taking their Technical Electives at the graduate level.
All 5-year students are highly encouraged to take Capstone Design (MENG 5980). Note that the research component of MENG 5980 should be agreed upon with a mechanical engineering faculty member as early as possible during the undergraduate years.
In their fifth year, after completing the bachelor degree, students will be registered as full-time graduate students, which requires that they are registered for at least nine credit hours of graduate-level courses per term. These courses will be charged at the graduate tuition rate.
To remain in the program, undergraduate students must maintain a 3.25 GPA at 91传媒 and be progressing steadily toward graduation.

Advantages
- Reduction in the total number of courses and possibly less time required to get both the bachelor and master degrees (students may count nine credits towards both undergraduate and graduate requirements).
- Ability to take up to three graduate courses at the undergraduate tuition rate.
The three graduate courses taken during the undergraduate program must be approved by the student's academic advisor. Students must receive a grade of "C" or better in order to earn credits toward both the undergraduate and graduate degrees.

Degree Requirements (BME 139 credits + MME 30 credits, nine credits double-counted)
The course requirements for the 5-Year Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering to Master of Mechanical Engineering include 139 credits of undergraduate coursework and 30 credits of graduate coursework. Nine credits taken at the graduate-level may be double-counted towards the undergraduate degree, so that the total credits completed could be 160 credits. The course requirements are based on the current existing requirements for each program separately.
