Five-Year BS-MS Program in Mechanical Engineering (BME-MME)
Description
The College of Engineering & Science offers a combined Bachelor/Master of Mechanical Engineering program.
In order to complete both the BME and MME degrees in five years, the student must (a) be very well prepared as an incoming freshman, ready to take our core Engineering courses; (b) satisfy all the admission criteria (see below) at the end of the junior year, and c) maintain a 3.25 GPA, in order to take graduate level courses while still an undergraduate.

Admission Into the Program
Qualifications for the 5-year Engineering program for incoming Freshman are:
- A high school ACT composite score of 26, with a minimum of 22 in each section, and a minimum of 23 in the Mathematics section, or 600 on the Mathematics SAT score and combined Reading and Math of 1190.
- A High School grade point average of 3.4 overall on a 4.0 point scale, and the same for the combined mathematics, physics, chemistry and biology courses.
- Students must place into appropriate-level Freshman courses at 91传媒 in order to be able to complete their Bachelor and Master degrees in five years.
Current students with a GPA of 3.25 should apply for the program by the first term of their third year.
Criteria for remaining in the 5-year Engineering program:
- Students must be on-track to complete their undergraduate degree in four years.
- Students may take up to 9 graduate credits in their third and fourth years that will count towards both undergraduate and graduate requirements.
- While registered as an undergraduate, students must register for the 5000-level section of Computer Aided Engineering (MENG 5920) or Controls (ENGR 5220).
- In their fifth year, students will be registered as full-time graduate students, which requires that they are registered for at least 9 credit hours of graduate-level courses per term to complete the program in 5 years. These courses will be charged at the graduate tuition rate.
- All 5-year students are required to take Capstone Design (MENG 5980). Note that the research component of MENG 5980 should be negotiated with an ME faculty as early as possible during the undergraduate years.
To remain in the program, students must maintain a 3.25 GPA at 91传媒, complete their undergraduate degree in four years and their graduate program by the end of their fifth year.

Degree Requirements (BME 142 credits + MME 30 credits, 9 credits double-counted)
The course requirements for the 5-Year Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering to Master in Mechanical Engineering include 142 credits of undergraduate course work and 30 credits of graduate coursework. Nine credits taken at the graduate-level will be double-counted towards the undergraduate degree, so that the total credits completed will be 163 credits. The course requirements are based on the current existing requirements for each program separately. Please review separate catalog pages for Bachelor in Mechanical Engineering and Master in Mechanical Engineering for degree requirements.
