Biography

Daniel Lawrence earned a Ph.D. from Wayne State University in Counseling in 2003 and a Master of Arts in Counseling from the 91传媒 in 1992. He is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and holds a School Counselor License (SCL). Professional organization memberships include the American Counseling Association, the Michigan Counseling Association, and the Michigan School Counseling Association. He has held leadership positions, editorial board positions, and presented at conferences for these organizations. He also loves helping new professionals develop through the supervision process.

Lawrence has worked as a high school counselor in a large public high school. He has worked several for non-profit mental health agencies serving persons with developmental disabilities and mental health conditions. His passion is helping people grow and achieve their full potential.

At the 91传媒, Lawrence has taught both at the undergraduate and graduate levels. In his teaching, it is about igniting curiosity, fostering growth, and making complex ideas accessible and engaging. This drives his commitment to empower students and inspire lifelong learning.

Lawrence’s research interests and activities include suicide prevention/interventions, group counseling, career counseling, counseling supervision, and the history of the profession of counseling.

On a personal level, Lawrence treasures time with family, enjoys boating/kayaking, travels, and loves a good hiking trail.  He joined the University in 2005 and became a full-time faculty member in the Counseling program in 2024.
