SACD, DCDC to host Black Landscape Architects exhibit at 91传媒

91传媒’s  along with  will host an exhibition, “Their Untold Stories: Black Landscape Architects Michigan Connection” inside the Loranger Architecture Building on the McNichols Campus.

It will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Sept. 19 through Friday, Sept. 30.

The exhibition explores the history, efforts and impacts of Black landscape architects, artists and designers with a Michigan connection and how their influences have impacted their journey. Through an artistic and research-based approach, this exhibition displays a visually compelling timeline of their stories, forming a deeper unified linkage to the state of Michigan, the city of Detroit and surrounding areas.

The event is an official part of the Detroit Month of Design. 2022 marks the 12th anniversary of the festival, which takes place annually during the month of September. Programmed by Design Core, Detroit Month of Design is a citywide celebration of creativity that gathers designers and the greater community to celebrate Detroit’s role as a UNESCO City of Design.

As part of the Month of Design, the SACD lectures series will feature guest speaker Kofi Boone at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 28 in the exhibition space of the Loranger Building. Virtual access will also be provided for the free lectures series.

Boone, a Fellow of the American Society of Landscape Architects (FASLA), is a University Faculty Scholar and Professor in the Department of Landscape Architecture and Environmental Planning at NC State University in the College of Design. He is a Detroit native and graduate of the University of Michigan. His work is in the overlap between landscape architecture and environmental justice with specializations in democratic design, digital media and interpreting cultural landscapes.
